Situated amongst 7 acres of gardens, this traditional, elegant property is situated just outside the city walls of the capital city of Valletta, the business, diplomatic and cultural centre of Malta.

The hotel is just a short stroll away from the island’s main business centre and shopping mecca, the Grand Harbour, the Mediterranean Conference Centre and a host of historical and architectural gems.

Hotel Phoenicia Malta is the only 5-star hotel in the capital city and has a heated outdoor swimming pool, views overlooking the harbour, 3 restaurants and a cocktail bar. It combines traditional, colonial and classical features with the highest standards of comfort. The beautifully appointed bedrooms and suites combine traditional elegance with contemporary features. Balcony rooms are available with views overlooking the seven acre mature garden and harbour. Hotel information

The hotel offers a range of sports and leisure facilities, including an all-year-round swimming pool and jacuzzi, accessible through 7 acres of terraced gardens, and the Phoenicia fitness room to help tone up those muscles. Those keen to enjoy relaxation can take part in a round or 2 of mini-golf under the welcoming shade of cypress trees.

The hotel has private parking, a hairdressing salon, jewellers and gift shop. Surrounded by spectacular 16th century bastions, there is a heated outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi with a magnificent views of the harbour.

Food & beverage

The restaurant, brasserie, lounge and bars offer guests a choice of Mediterranean, Maltese and continental cuisine and beverages, in either formal or informal settings.

Dining at the Phoenix Restaurant offers fine dining with international, Mediterranean and local influences. Pegasus Brasserie offers a casual setting for a more informal dining experience, with French and Mediterranean cuisine.

The Club Bar is the place to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail on the veranda, or after dinner to savour a fine brandy and an aromatic cigar, smoked in the comfort of an authentic colonial atmosphere with soft background music.

Area information

Today, Malta is best known as a holiday island, with sun and sea views, a rich heritage and history, archaeology, architecture, art and culture. Valletta, the capital city, dates back to the 16th century and is dominated by the Island's Grand Harbour, one of the finest natural ports in Europe.

A number of tourist attractions are within a short walk of the hotel, including St John's Cathedral, Grand Master's Palace, the War Museum, Manoel Theatre and Grand Harbour.

The hotel occupies a central position, just outside the city walls of Valletta, overlooking the island's historic Grand Harbour to the east and Marsamxetto Harbour to the west.

thr location and the building which had so much unused potential

the very basic cleanliness it was an example of routine cleaning, mould in the bathroom on tilers amd builup in corners of rooms the beadspreads were very dirty as were the cushionc and chair upholsteries.

Lots. When we arrived, no one offered to help with luggage. The doorman was there but ignored us. The room was shabby, had flies and mosquitos. We reported this to the receptionist as we went out for the evening,and she laughed! Not the response I was expecting, and when we returned it was obvious that no one had been to the room to do anything about them. We were left to deal with them ourselves

Location and friendly staff, when one made a mistake about taxi price to airport the one next morning helped me to get that price and not the higher I should have paid.

the room was quite overpriced (small but tidy), breakfast overpriced to a funny extent.

The restaurant and bar were very good, staff helpful and good natured. Very convenient for Valleta and magnificent gardens and aspect.

It needs a refurb badly. There were ants in my bathroom, the tiny lift to my room was impossible to get into with luggage, and was constantly in use. Some parts of the building were distinctly shabby for a 5 star hotel.

Swimming pool was excellent, food was very good.

Staff at the reseption: very slow and not friendly. Hotel is old and a bit wornout.
