Hotel information

This striking property is the realisation of the dreams of one man: Lord Tollemache, MP for Cheshire. He built Britain's grandest folly between 1844 and 1851. Standing atop a wooded hillside, its dramatic silhouette can be seen for miles across Cheshire. Today this magnificent building is the only Grade I listed Medieval castle in the UK.

Privately owned, it comprises of 38 recently refurbished en suite bedrooms and the new Falconry Encounter, home to a Golden Eagle.

Food & beverage

The Head Chef, Steve Ramsden, is classically trained with some of the industry greats, resulting in a unique culinary experience. His menus are based around locally sourced produce and this is reflected in the choice of suppliers to Peckforton Castle; the kitchen uses the Cheshire Smoke House, Burrows the award winning butcher in Bunbury, Williams of Flint for their Welsh Black Beef and fresh produce from the local farms.

The restaurant Manager and staff are on hand to cater to your every whim, whether it be formal or informal dining. If you are looking for your own private dining room to entertain family and friends or simply a romantic meal for 2 overlooking the grassed Ward area, you simply have to ask.

You can even start your evening in the candle-lit Wine Cellar, sipping on a glass of Pink Champagne, nibbling on some canapés whilst browsing the à la carte menu and extensive wine list.

Area information

Peckforton Castle is situated 12 miles from Chester city centre, 36 miles from Manchester International Airport, 20 minutes' drive from junction 16 of the M6 and halfway between Birmingham and Manchester.

Oulton Park Race Course is just 5 minutes' drive away. Other attractions within a 20 minute drive include: Chester Races, Dee Races, Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium, Cheshire Candle Work Factory, Nantwich, Crewe and Wrexham.

Important information

Peckforton Castle Hotel is the only Grade 1 Listed Medieval Style Castle Hotel within the UK.

All accommodation was refurbished by the current family owners and was completed in 2007.

We enjoyed the seclusion and the surroundings were beautiful. I would recommend the setting for a romantic break to anyone.It actually snowed on our arrival and this added to the beauty.

The only thing we disliked about the hotel was the fact that the car parking area was situated in a wood and was muddy. Also the hotel menu would have been nicer if there was some simpler food on there.

The castle felt authentic and the restaurant was very nice. The dinner and breakfast were both excellent. We had the Textures of Beef and Lamb choices for dinner. Meat was wonderfully cooked.

Shocked to find on arrival at 3pm, there was nothing for guests to do: no bar open, an empty restaurant with staff sitting around, on the internet. Not that I blame them -there was no one to serve! It was v sunny and drinks/food on the lawn would've been lovely. Felt quite ousted by the clear prioritization of conference guests over us underlings! Cobwebs in bathroom, ants in bedroom

Very friendly and helpful staff, interesting place to stay, nice room. Reception staff even went on multimap to get directions for us.

The hotel is quite isolated and has iprices for bar and restaurant well above similar accomodation I have stayed in elsewhere. The only choice was the a la carte restaurant (no fixed special menu) . We booked at a rate of £55, the price on the bill was £70. It was only on querying this we were told that breakfast had been added and we could remove the extra £15 the next day-check the bill!

The breakfast, the uniqueness of the place and the peacocks

Not much shower gel in the bathroom and the we could not get the TV to work. The remote control probably needed batteries.

very over rated. low standards of cleanliness. poor service. Very poor reception - had wrong name on voucher as well as incorrect number of people staying. Had to phone twice to correct. Tried to give room not as booked - would not return.

Amazing experience, well worth it. Beautiful grounds, enormous castle to freely roam around in, excellent breakfast, friendly relaxed staff.

Our room was in the turret on the sixth floor - no lifts made it a bit of a workout, but great views.

The reception staff were charming.
