Resting upon the banks of the river Amstel this 17th century hotel boasts canal views and a private jetty, all a short walk from Amsterdam’s historical city centre.

This hotel is well situated for those wishing to explore Amsterdam’s city centre. Located close to Rembrandt square and the flower market it is a short walk from theatres and museums, including Rembrandt House and the Jewish Historical museums, as well as restaurants and cafes.

Inside the hotel there are canal view rooms and you can enjoy breakfast whilst overlooking the Amstel River, as well as arrive and leave by boat from the jetty. The hotel is also close to public transport links and a shuttle service to the airport runs throughout the day.

Hotel information

Built in 1883, the original architecture and furnishings make this hotel distinctive. As it is only a short walk away from the city centre this hotel is placed among historical buildings and attractions.

The hotel boasts a variety of famous and artisitic guests including Queen Victoria, The Beatles and the Empress Sissi who has a room named after her. Rembrandt is said to have painted the work 'Night Watch' on the third floor of the hotel.

The hotel's jetty means that you can arrive and travel around the city by boat. You can even be picked up for a boat tour through the city's canals from here.

Food & beverage

The NH Doelen offers a breakfast buffet every morning in the hotel which is served in the breakfast room that overlooks the Amstel River. Breakfast is served between 07:00 and 10:30.

For lunch and dinner the hotel recommends you use Brasserie Schiller at the NH Schiller which is within walking distance. However there are many restaurants and cafes situated close by.

Everything great, great location (10 min walk to DAM), nice staff

The rooms need redecorating, one evening there was no light in the room but it was quickly fixed. A bit noisy in the street downstairs.

The location was great, room and bathroom were better than I expected from reading the previous reviews, price was fair

Reception staff was a bit unprofessional (young), towels were dirty, beds were too soft

Very attractive breakfast room/restaurant. Very welcoming and helpful staff

Noisy bedroom.Not good value for money - the room rate was 189 euros and breakfast was additional.

free internet/printer access

Room service. Left breakfast order on door at 10pm (well before 3am next day) and nothing appearing following morning...card had not been collected and no mention by staff later about it!!!

Its very near to the center,canals,museum,red lights area,tram stations.

Must be improve the cleanness in the rooms and must be report in the their site extra cost for canal view.
